Here is a fantastic piece of WW2 history. This is the personal log of 1st Sgt. Earl A.Queen from Elkin, NC, hand written by him recording his life in a german Stalag as a POW. Sgt. Queen, a member of the 82nd Airbone parachutted in D-Day on the 6th of June 1944 as was immediatly captured by german forces. He recounts in his own hand his 4 week travels and hardships being moved from the front to eastern Germany to Stalag 111C Nr. 46. He recounts his experiences in the camp, the hardships and the joys of Christmas and Red Cross care packages to his harrowing escape and liberation by Soviet Russian troops. The stories he relates from being straffed by US fighter planes as they were being marched away from Normandy to being shot at by the Russians upon liberation are interesting into the times of battle. Included in this hard bound book are drawings, antedotes, his death notice, he died in 1958, to names of fellow POW'S and Russian liberators. This is a rare and important historical piece for both the collector and WW2 historian. A rare chace to own a true piece of history written in the hand of the man who made it. Also included are newspaper clipings when he was first missing in action to being captured and when he was liberated. Oveall very good. Please note this was written during his captivity, 11 pages of hand written diary notes by date regarding his captivity and liberation by Soviet troops. 13 pages with hand written notes from other POW'S in his camp after liberation and numerous news clippings regarding his capture, and release.
