This is a highly decorative brass head pipe tomahawk with spontoon type bladed head decorated with edge and base stippling overall. The haft is ash and is decorated with carved scalloped edges which were file burned as decoration and is adorned with early brass tacks. Some of the tacks have gone missing through the years but overall this is a highly sought type of tomahawk. This piece dates circa 1860 possibly reservation made. Tomahawks of this style were mainly used as ornamental or ceremonial pieces and rarely used as weapons although accounts were made of such use. Native Americana is a subjective field and as such we do not guarantee the dates given to each item nor do we guarantee that each item appears now as it did when created as most Native American artifacts were added to or detracted from during their history.
