ITEM DESCRIPTION

This is a highly decorative iron head pipe tomahawk with weeping heart type bladed head decorated with edge and base stippling overall. The haft is ash and is decorated and adorned with many brass tacks. The haft was split at some point and was repaired. This piece dates circa 1860 possibly reservation made with an extremely rare and large beaded drop with cone hangers. A drop of this quality is worth a premium by itself and are highly sought by collectors. Tomahawks of this style were mainly used as ornamental or ceremonial pieces and rarely used as weapons although accounts were made of such use. Circa 1860’s. Native Americana is a subjective field and as such we do not guarantee the dates given to each item nor do we guarantee that each item appears now as it did when created as most Native American artifacts were added to or detracted from during their history.
