US Cavalry Model 1885 Leather Carbine Boot, Black Leather, Reproduction. Constructed of heavy harness leather. Has authentic ordnance stamp on the front which reads "AVER & CO. MAKER ARMY CONTRACTOR".
The carbine boot replaced the carbine socket of the Civil War and was designed to stabilize a rider's gun on horseback and support some of its weight. The gun was still attached to the rider by a wide strap across his shoulder (the carbine sling); if the rider dismounted or was thrown, the gun would come free from the shallow carbine boot so that the rider could use it quickly.
Appears unused and still has that new leather smell to it. Some some scuffing and dings to the leather surface from the straps and buckles rubbing. Just the thing to complete that frontier Cavalry impression. Condition Excellent.
