34-1/2" round barrel with the bayonet lug front sight. The bore is dirty and the rifling good, but the inside of the muzzle has been threaded for about 5/8" (for whatever purpose??). 3 barrel bands, all marked "B". Receiver tang is marked: Remington Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A. / Pat. May 3d Nov. 15th 1864, April 17, 1866 / April 20th, 186 (5 or 7), Nov. 7th, 187(1). No original finish remaining on any of the metal parts. The barrel, barrel bands, rear sight, receiver, hammer, sling swivels, and rolling block all have a medium gray patina. The trigger guard and buttplate have a dark patina. Walnut buttstock and full length forearm have no original finish remaining, with both having the expected scratches and dings. The buttstock has some deep dents and gouges. There is a hairline crack on the underside of the forearm originating at the front of the underside of the receiver, which runs for about 2". This is a nice representative example of this mass produced longarm. Condition Good. |
