WWII German J.P. Sauer & Sohn Suhl 7.65mm Model 38H Semi-Auto Pistol, 1st Police Variation, With Magazine. Serial Number 278563. FFL or C&R Required.
The German designation for this pistol was Sauer Pistole Modell 38 Hahn Selbstspannung (Sauer Pistol Model 38 Hammer Self-Cocking). 3-3/8" barrel, with decent bore and good rifling. High polish blued finish. Has the Eagle over N proof mark on the right side of the frame , right side of the slide, and right side of the barrel near the muzzle (the Eagle over N proof mark replaced the earlier Crown over N proofmark in April 1940 and the N means that the firearm was proofed with nitro, or smokeless powder). On the left side of the slide, in 2 lines, is: J.P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL / CAL. 7,65. On the right side of the barrel is: PATENT. The serial number 278563 is located on the right side of the frame at the rear, and the underside of the slide is numbered 563. Black Bakelite checkered grips, with the left grip having the SuS logo, with both grips having some very light wear and some light scratches but no cracks or chips. Original blued magazine marked on the bottom with the SuS logo and CAL. 7,65. Blued finish would rate about 85% or better, with some light wear on the side of the slide at the muzzle, some light wear on the front of the trigger guard, and the back of the slide and back grip straps have dulled to a gray-blue, with the front grip strap having some pinprick freckling of very light surface rust. The pistol has the manual safety lever and also the cocking-decocking lever on the left side. Everything on this pistol functions perfectly and as it should.
Nice and highly collectible WWII German sidearm. Condition Very Good Plus. FFL or C&R Required.
