ITEM DESCRIPTION
Antique British Tower Cavalry Horse Pistol, 66 Caliber Smoothbore, Percussion, Original, Ca. 1840-50.  Very lovely and desireable British military horse pistol with swivel ramrod, which denotes Cavalry use.  15" overall length with 8" round barrel.  Iron lockplate, hammer, trigger, grip front strap, ramrod, and ramrod swivel.  Brass buttplate, ramrod thimble, trigger guard, and escutcheon plate.  The lockplate is marked TOWER and  has the Crown emblem.  No date on the lockplate.  The barrel has 3 proofstamps on the left side at the breech and has the number 853 stamped into this area as well..  No original finish remaining and all metal is an uneven medium gray.  No rust and only a very minute amount of pitting at the muzzle.  All the brass furniture has a nice and pleasing mellow patina.  The brass buttplate has the number 35 stamped into it.  Walnut stock with most of the original finish remaining.  Stock has some light dings and scratches, and has one slightly larger ding on the right side in front of the lockplate.  No cracks or chips on the stock.  The hammer spring is very strong and the lock mecahnism functions perfectly, with the half cock being functioning correctly as it should.  The ramrod swivel is complete and tight (and serves to prevent the ramrod from being lost while reloading upon horseback).  Absolutely stunning example of a large caliber horse pistol from the glory days of military combat.  Would make a fine addtion to any collection.  Condition Very Good Plus.  No FFL Required.
